reefscapes
Reefscapes, developed to address the threats facing coral reefs, aims to promote, repair, and restore damaged reef habitats. Despite covering less than 1% of the world's oceans, coral reefs harbor a quarter of all marine species, making them crucial ecosystems.
However, they face numerous threats such as climate change, ocean acidification, coastal development, pollution, and overfishing. Leading United Nations scientists warn that coral reefs are at risk of being the first ecosystem entirely eliminated by human activity.
To combat these threats, it's essential to promote the health of ocean systems. Research indicates that artificial reefs can play a vital role in enhancing the resilience of ocean environments. Thus, Reefscapes is a project aimed at leveraging artificial reefs to bolster the resilience and vitality of coral reef ecosystems.
